To fulfill the requirements of the Bachelor of Education program at Althouse, those enrolled in Music as a teachable subject had do an "Own Choice Assignment." As quoted from the course outline: "Students will choose both the topic and format of an assignment that they feel will be most relevant to them in becoming a teacher. In selecting a suitable topic, students should consider their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their professional growth as a teacher."

What was MY "Own Choice Assignment?" A Jazz Website! Before I tell you any more, please let me fill you in on the rationale behind choosing this project:
"Jazz has become very prevalent in today's Secondary Schools. In order to better equip myself to teach in this environment, I want a secure background in both instrumental and vocal jazz. My current background is non-existent and I would love to learn about this genre not only to make myself more marketable as a teacher, but also for my own personal growth."

When I first began this assignment, I had hoped to create a web site that new music teachers, like myself, could come to learn about the wonders of jazz. However, after extensive internet searching and research, I came upon so many excellent jazz sites that I realised how difficult the task of creating an entirely new and utterly captivating jazz site would be. Instead, I have decided to make an easy-to-navigate and comprehensible links page to the best areas of each excellent site I found to get YOU the best information on the web, augmented by information I have found from a variety of other sources.

So please: Browse around and hopefully you will learn as much about jazz as I did through this project!
